ABRASION

ABRASION RESISTANCE

Different stresses such as scraping and rubbing can physically change the properties of a component. The result can be color changes, gloss changes and complete removal of surface color and veneer.

FLAMMABILITY

FLAMMABILITY

Our flammability testing program measures the rate of burn. Automotive vehicles contain many components that can burn. Our flammability testingc apabilities include tests that can be done on a wide variety of materials; fabrics, plastics, wood, leather and rubber are just a few substrates.

COLOR

COLOR

Automotive components are exposed to sunlight on a daily basis. Our laboratory testing can help determine the color fastness and aging resistance of textiles, plastics and other products. This is done by simulating weather conditions such as daylight, rain, temperature and humidity.
IMPACT

IMPACT

Impact testing saves lives. Properly testing components evaluates their strength and durability and helps to ensure that they are not at risk of being damaged during unintended impacts.

CORROSION

CORROSION

Salt spray on roads is the natural enemy of metals used on automobiles. Accelerated corrosion tests including the Salt Spray test & Cyclic Corrosion tests help to evaluate the corrosion resistance of coated steels, which can help to alleviate costly repairs and irreversible damage.
FOGGING

RESISTANCE TO FOGGING

Fogging on glass is not only irritating, but also dangerous. Fogging tests will measure the propensity of a component to volatilize substances, which can lead to condensation on other surfaces. Driver visibility can be impacted by even the slightest build-up of these condensed gases.
STABILITY

DIMENSIONAL STABILITY

Extreme temperatures can affect components if they are not dimensionally stable. MTI can test the dimensional changes that occur when vehicle parts are subjected to the stress of going from extreme hot to extreme cold temperatures. We can also factor in humidity and then continue to evaluate the dimensional changes.
SCRATCH

SCRATCH RESISTANCE

Durability is of the utmost importance for the polymers and plastics that are used for automotive components. MTI can test scratch resistance on materials including, but not limited to, instrument panels, door panels, handles, dashboard, air bags, consoles or seat components.
FILM

FILM THICKNESS

Paint manufacturers usually recommend the target ranges. MTI can measure your film’s variability or density to ensure ideal product performance. We offer nondestructive dry film testing using an Elcometer and destructive methods such as cross-sectioning.
VIBRATION

VIBRATION

MTI understands that vibration testing requirements affect all sectors of all industries. We offer test parameters such as: Sine, Random, Shock, SOR, FRD and Resonance Test along with combined vibration and temperature testing.
